SAVETHEHOUR’S SECOND OFFICIAL LONDON FLASHMOB/MEET-UP INFO POST!
FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2013 - 12:00 p.m. - LondonWhat: Since our first flash mob demonstration was such a resounding success we are going for a second round!  It will again be happening outside BBC Broadcasting House, showing our support for The Hour!Where: BBC Broadcasting House, located at Portland Place, LONDON, W1A 1AA. The Plan: Just exactly the same as the last time, we’ll be having a flash mob/meet-up with a special twist a la The Hour! Rather than a song or dance, we’re going to be re-creating the protest that Hector, Freddie, and Isaac cover for The Hour in the fifth episode of Series One! You can catch a sample of that protest by watching this. Here’s what you’ll need to bring with you if you can:
A sign or sign(s) for the “protest”. This can be poster board or a sign like the ones in the show. Some possible phrases would be some of the campaign’s most popular, including (but not limited to):
“You haven’t seen our best yet, BBC! #SAVETHEHOUR”
“It’s The Hour you can’t miss, The Hour you have to see! #SAVETHEHOUR”
“The Hour: The most important sixty minutes of television in your week. #SAVETHEHOUR!”
This obviously isn’t an exhaustive list. You can put any variation on these you want, or choose a different quote. However, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a quote. A “The Hour” variation on one of the signs they used in the Suez protest in the show would be great, or just a simple variation of: #Save The Hour, BBC. Making sure your sign is clear that it refers to The Hour, and putting some variation of #SaveTheHour on your sign large enough to see is VERY important.
Your best 1950s period dress!! If you cosplay that would be amazing as well. (If you feel you don’t have 1950s dress, don’t worry! Please, don’t let that make you feel that you cannot partcipate. Everyone is welcome!)
Love for The Hour and a readiness for fun with fellow campaigners! We will spend some time outside BBC Broadcasting House (probably across the street at the church just like last time, as the BBC do not allow protesters on their property).  We will be telling everyone where to meet up at so we can all stay together soon.  It will probably be just like last time or at the church steps, but keep an eye out for specific details on that. Can’t make it to London? No worries!  We will also be supporting our Londoners from Twitter just like before, sending out tweets to the likes of RadioTimes, The Guardian, the BBC, etc.  So mark down June 21st at 12:00 p.m.  GMT on your calendars as we support everyone protesting at the BBC!  There will be a post with relevant Twitter handles and more details soon, so watch out for that!  If you are a fan of The Hour and can be at any of these locations, please join us!! It should be a great time with fellow fans supporting our show!  Thank you all so much who have already responded to tell me you’ll be there!! If you have any comments/questions feel free to let me know.I’m super excited for this second go round.  Such extraordinary, helpful things happened the last time, with tons of promotion.  Let’s show them we’re serious about our cause and that we won’t give up.  Hope to see you guys there! - Ash

REMINDER THAT THE FLASH MOB (LONDON) AND TWITTER PARTY IS THIS FRIDAY AT 12 PM GMT!  A post is coming up shortly with the Twitter details.  Further details for the flash mob can be found here.  Let’s make this one just as great as the first!  - Ash

21,988! Save The Hour seriously rocks!

*applause*  We are still receiving signatures!  22,000 here we come!  IDK if anyone here hasn’t signed, but hey, it can’t hurt to reblog again.  ;)

eliusv:

What if we organised a screening of some episodes, asked for a small admission fee and gave the profit for the Literacy Trust (even if it were just one or two pounds per person)? If there’d be a poll about the series or the episodes that people would like to see? It could be organised in any major city we have people who’d attend in. (Were it in London before 1.7. or preferably after 20.8, I could take care of the reservations or what not what comes to the space where it’d be organised etc what not. The show I have on dvd.)

This sounds like a wonderful idea.  I think the key here would be getting enough people in one area able to attend as we are all so far spread out.  Reblogging to see if others would be interested in something like this.  :D

littletalksandlionhearts asked: If I did not live in Australia, I would most certainly come along. I have only just watched the second series as I was away when it aired over here, but when I saw the first series, Freddie especially, is what made me want to become a Journalist, which is what I am pursuing now. It is a show that has inspired me, so thank you for this :)

How amazing is this show that it inspires people in so many ways?  I especially love to hear from people that have been inspired by the characters/show to pursue journalism.  It’s just so moving to me.  This show just cannot, nor will ever, be replaced.  That’s why we have to keep fighting.  Thank you for being a fellow campaigner!  :)  - Ash

SECOND LONDON FLASH MOB MEET-UP DETAILS

Hello again all!  As promised, here are the specific details for where to meet up next Friday for the flash mob.  Since everything seemed to work so well last time, we are simply going to go with the same plan.  (Thanks to Maureen for letting me use bits of her write-up!)

The closest underground station to BBC Broadcasting is the Oxford Circus stop. We will meet outside the station on Oxford Street at 11:30 am and then we can walk to Portland Place and the BBC together from there. We will then stage our protest nearby (most likely across the street like last time as the BBC does not allow protesters on the property).

Reminder: Please come with a sign that somehow expresses our “Save the Hour” message!  You can find ideas at the info post here.

Also, remember to wear your best 1950s period dress/cosplay if you have it!  If not, don’t let a lack of period clothing deter you from participating! The more people we have the better!

If you’re planning on coming, and have not yet sent me a message can you please message/inbox me just so we know how many to expect?

It should be a great day!  Hopefully we’ll attract the attention of the BBC and the news again, and who knows what other amazing things might happen - maybe Anna Chancellor will happen by again.  ;)

If anyone has any further questions, feel free to shoot me an ask!

THIS IS WHAT BEING A BRILLIANT FANDOM LOOKS LIKE.  Watching this made me SO happy about the first flash mob all over again.  I smiled through the entire thing.  Yet again, I have to say thank you to everyone that was there (groovyhedgehogfreddielyoning, justacockeyedoptimist, eliusv, and gingilocks101!).  You guys are amazing, even more so for standing out in the nasty weather that day.  Everyone in this campaign is wonderful.  It can never be said that we are not fighting.  It makes me even more excited for the second one coming up next Friday (if that were possible).  Hope to see you guys there!  And I’ll be seeing all everyone who is too far away at the Twitter party!  ;) - Ash

This was shot, edited, and submitted by eliusv for all of us that couldn’t be at the first flash mob demonstration.  Take a look at the photos and clips from the day!  Thanks again, Eliusv!

For those who might have missed it!  :)

xmasxmas asked: In case anyone's interested, Romola Garai reads Judy Blume's 'Forever' at the Royal Court theatre, London this Friday 14th June at £6.30pm, tickets only £5 & there are some still available. May also be a good chance to let her know about all the exciting things we've been up to? :)

Oh this sounds wonderful!  Thanks for the heads up!  If anyone is going, please feel free to mention to her what all has been happening with the campaign.  We’d love to hear back from you!  :)
